The “CSI” Effect is what I call it when people are looking for a camera system for their home or business and they have misguided conceptions of how that system will work. Combine that with the fact that I can “get a camera system at Sam’s” and I’ll tell you this. Let Sam’s sell you discount lawn furniture, some frozen chicken, and a month supply of Skittles…cameras, not so much. Many people, because of CSI (Las Vegas, Miami, SVU, pick one), have the idea that just because they buy a camera that they will be able to see a 360 degree view of what they are looking at and/or they’ll be able to zoom in from 100 feet away and read the license plate…at night…in the pouring down rain. Do they make camera(s) that will do that? Absolutely! However, it’s not the one you’re going to buy from Sam’s. What you need to think about and what you should discuss with a professional company, such as Intec, is: What am I trying to accomplish? What am I trying to see? Why is this an area of concern? And, do I need the camera to serve more than one need?
When it comes to cameras you can do a google search and find hundreds, if not thousands, of cameras. A large majority of which are made overseas for as cheap as possible. Find out what type of warranty you are getting with your purchase. Find out if what you are purchasing an analog system, and HD system or an IP system. This will determine other variables such as viewing quality, playback quality, and longevity of the system.
